Hensel Phelps Logo Boxes

I've gotten some interesting requests, and this one was turned out better than we thought, and a lot of work.

The construction company Hensel Phelps contacts me about making 18 LEGO boxes with the company logo imprinted on both sides. These were made for a company party, and for the tables. The easiest part was the sides and the company logo--the most difficult part was to create the bottom to hold candies and other goodies.

The bottom of the box ended up being easier to make than I had origanally thought. I found 16 x 32 white baseplates that fit perfectly in the bottom--held up by cross bracing several layers of bricks. In order to test the strength of the cross-bracing, the boxes were tested in two sizes: using 32 x 32 baseplates (not available in white) and 16 x 32 baseplates, and they both worked quite well. The 32 x 32 sized box was able to hold 4 full Pick-A-Brick cups from the LEGO store. The 16 x 32 held 2 full cups, as expected.

The hardest part was remembering to "flip" the logo while building both sides of the box. There were a couple of boxes that I had to rebuild because the logo didn't look right for some reason (when you're up late at night building, these things happen). Fortunately, it only happened a couple of times before I could build these boxes in my sleep.

After several trips to the LEGO store in Valley Fair and several purchases from Bricklink and LEGO Shop at Home, I finally had enough pieces to finish up all 18 boxes. And to top them off, they all had a construction miinifig to accompany the boxes to the party.
