Einhander
This is my latest project, but definitely not my latest idea. This is actually one of my first ideas for a LEGO project when I first saw the Playstation 1 (PSX) video game of the same name.
So, a little background first from the Einhander FAQ:
Basically, the plot is that at some point in the future, the Earth and the moon colony Selene are constantly at war. Anyway, Selene has been sending fighters on suicide runs against the Earth. This operation is code named "Einhander".
Einhander is German for one hand. As you can see from the fighter, it looks like a bird of prey (more like a vulture to me), and it has one "hand" that hangs down. This is used to carry an assortment of weapons, which I have not worked on yet. However, that is one thing I plan on working on--as well as updating the fighter to look more like the one in the graphic seen here.
Before I got started, I did find some inspiration on the web. Mark has done an Einhander fighter, and it inspired me to try to work on one myself. I got a lot of inspiration looking at his (and thank you for doing such a great job, Mark). However, I still wanted to make mine with a different perspective.
This is my second version of this model. I modified the gunmount and added the white rocket "fins" in the rear. I plan on keeping the body, the head, and the "hander" the way they are. However, if you look at the picture of the Einhander, I still need to fix the rear white rockets and get some of the colour right. Also, I'm not happy with the way the panels look either, so I'll be working on those as well.
As I go through the modifications, I'll add all the pictures to Brickshelf so you can see the model evolve over time. The body, the head, the hand, and the wings were pretty constant (very minor changes if any to those parts). Most of the changes were in the white rear fins, the panels above the jets, and the built-in gun mount above the head.
I haven't done any gunpods yet, but that will be the next thing I add. A full complement of weapons.
