Leonberger

I made the Leonberger dog for one of my friends who works with the Leonberger Rescue. A Leonberger is bred from three breeds: Newfoundland, St. Bernard, and a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. As you can imagine, this is a pretty big dog. These dogs are over 100 lbs, so they're pretty big but very much a family dog. More information on Leonbergers is available at the International Leonberger Union website.

Because of the Leo's size, I wanted to capture that in the figurine. I also wanted to make sure the dog looked representative of a Leo, with the black face and ears and tan body.

The other thing about a big dog like this is they have a big tail. These are the type of tails that can clean off a coffee table with one sweep.

They also have very strong shoulders. Making the the shoulders very visible was also key to making them recognizable as a very big dog. Since I do these projects for rescue groups, please click on the Leonberger Rescue logo and check out information on the dogs.
